Sutton Bank Stroll...

Today me and a family friend who we're going to call Mrs R as she doesn't want to have her name published. Went on a walk up to the White Horse near Kilburn, Yorkshire. Like I occasionally do with some of my family members. Mrs R took me up the back way through Thirsk up the steep bank through Sutton-under-whitestonecliff. Long road through a long named village! Most of the sights through here I never knew existed before which was a lovely suprise as well as the views. We then stopped by the Sutton Bank visitors centre for a cuppa tea (natually) and a piece of Apple Pie and her cake at the tea room / cafe area.  Full to nearly bursting as ever and looked rather worryingly short staffed with a cue that always seems to be long and only two people on. One poor lady seemed rather flustered but very nice. We went past a stand and collected some leaflets or pamflets on The Butterfly Conservation fund / Association as this year here in England and the UK it seems like it or not to be the worst year for butterflies and moths, poor things! Wonder if anyone else has found that!

Before hand having gone past one of the 'finest views in England' as they say so up there on the plaque! ...

 There is a Gliding Club for if you want to try out Gliding.

There were children's activities and a fun day going on. (Not that we knew off as it hasn't been up at our Tourist Office - having worked there on the odd days.) We went through on one of the trails which I found rather amusing all the little kids fun facts, them strange ones, well some that we didn't even know about Bees!

 Sutton Bank visitors centre £2.20 for 2 hours parking and £4.20 for more... not too bad... Radar Keys for the Disabled Toilets are £3.30 at the centre and at Easingwold TIC they are £3. (Just noting if anyone needs one hehe!)

 There is also a lake ... called Lake Gormire... over looking the East side of the White Horse are and Sutton Bank Visitors centre on the side... with many local Myths and Legends of it being bottomless and a hidden underwater lost city... very Atlantis like!

One of the stories says about a watch throwing someone from Whitestonecliffe into Lake Gormire as punishment... and many stories vary... or there of Knights and Lake Gormire where local myth speaks of witches and horsemen jumping into its bottomless depths and of a lost village... etc... copied this from one website:
