Postcrossing

Hello again Blog readers!

Rae here, and this time I'm on about the addictive art of collecting or sending or even both of postcards!

This only one part of my wall (s) whilst doing postcrossing and pen palling. Pen palling since I was 12 and Postcrossing now for just over 6 years. (even though if you go onto the Postcrossing website it says less then 4 years, due to I had to switch accounts).

As previously shown on many blogs and vlogs! ... I have sent over 90+ postcards world wide and recieved over 84+ postcards. My name on the site is Raevie if you wish to search my profile to see if I'm not fibbing hehe! :D

I have over 30 favourites of postcards ranging from landscapes, cartoons and hand made ones people have sent me. The most active month on sending and recieving postcards was May 2017 at the latest.
The most I've recieved are from Germany, Russia and the USA.  The longest total of days for a postcard that i've sent to get to its destination is 138 Days to Hong Kong - to get to me from someone else and those that I have sent out it is... 39 Days to China.

The quickest postcard to get to me... was the most bizzare was from a pen pal of mine in New Zealand all the way over the other side of the world/globe!! It is litterally strange how one postcard from Germany litterally next to the UK takes longer say 38 days to arrive then the postcard from new zealand that took only 13 Days to arrive! It's quite strange looking back at all the stats and things they save up for you.

SO... in Postcrossing there are: 688,075 members, from 211 countries, 1,242 postcards in the last hour!! There have been 42,729,495 postcards received and 394,761 postcards traveling. That's
133,631,877,208 miles traveled via postcards ... so that's over 5,366,429 laps around the world!!! (No I didn't just work all that out lol, sorry to dissapoint many out there, copied from the site... im not that good lol!)

Things they advice you to stick on your postcard... or rather just write on it:

Although quite small, the space on the writable side of a postcard can often seem intimidating, and some postcrossers struggle with what to write there... To help with this, here are 20 different ideas to fill your postcards:
  • Express what daily life is like where you’re sending the card from by describing what you did today, your routine, etc.
  • Write 5 curious facts about the place where the card is from.
  • Give local traveling tips from your area! What are the must-sees around you?
  • Include your favorite quote, perhaps in its original language (with translation!)
  • What was the last thing you cooked or ate? Include a recipe!
  • What do you have in common with the recipient of your card?
  • Recount a childhood memory, or something you've learned from your grandparents.
  • What makes you happy? If it makes you smile, there's a good chance others will like to hear about it.
  • Share a local idiom or saying, in its original language, with translation of course!
  • Did you ever travel to the place where your card is going? Recall your best memory of that place.
  • What's the weather like as you are writing your postcard? Draw the weather forecast in detail, and don't forget to include the temperature!
  • Share an interesting fact that you've learned, and which most people are not aware of.
  • Got an unusual hobby or collection? Do tell!
  • Did anything important happen in your country lately? Share an interesting news bit!
  • Write about your favorite book, movie or band.
  • Draw a picture of your surroundings, or your favorite object in that room.
  • Write your favorite poem or…
  • ...make up your own poem! Acrostic poems or haikus are short and enjoyable to write.
  • What are the local festivals or traditions from your area?
  • If you're a student, what are you studying? What was the last thing you learnt in school?
Bright Blessings Rae x
